Novak Djokovic will start his 2025 season and aim for an 11th Australian Open title at the Brisbane International, now being coached by Andy Murray.
Novak Djokovic will kick off his 2025 season and chase an 11th Australian Open title at the Brisbane International, it was revealed on Wednesday. The 37-year-old Serbian is now coached by Andy Murray and is aiming for a record 25th Grand Slam title after a frustrating 2024, in which he failed to add to his tally, although he did win Olympic singles gold in Paris. The ATP-WTA event will take place from December 29 to January 5, with the Australian Open starting on January 12.
“I’m excited to begin my Australian swing at the Brisbane International and compete again at Pat Rafter Arena,” said Djokovic.
“I’m looking forward to the incredible support from the Australian fans and making this tournament unforgettable.”
If Djokovic wins, it will be his 100th career title, making him just the third man in the Open era, following Jimmy Connors (109) and Roger Federer (103), to achieve this milestone.
Djokovic was defeated in this year’s Australian Open semi-finals by eventual champion Jannik Sinner, with his failure to win another major leaving him tied with Margaret Court at 24 Grand Slam singles titles.
In his quest to surpass her in Melbourne, Djokovic has teamed up with his long-time rival and now-retired Murray.
The Brisbane tournament will also mark the return of Australian Nick Kyrgios, who has played only one ATP Tour singles match in two years due to knee, foot, and wrist injuries.
Other men’s players kicking off their year in Brisbane include Grigor Dimitrov, Holger Rune, Frances Tiafoe, and Matteo Berrettini.
Reigning Australian Open women’s champion and world number one Aryna Sabalenka has also confirmed she will start her season at the Queensland Tennis Centre.
Three other top-10 players—Jessica Pegula, Emma Navarro, and Daria Kasatkina—will compete, along with former Brisbane champion Victoria Azarenka.
Several players have chosen to begin their year at the mixed-team United Cup in Sydney and Perth, including women’s world number two Iga Swiatek, Coco Gauff, and Jasmine Paolini.
Men’s world number two Alexander Zverev and fourth-ranked Taylor Fritz have also signed up for the United Cup.
