Pakistan’s fast bowler Mohammad Amir and all-rounder Imad Wasim have announced their retirements from international cricket for the second time.
Amir, 32, and Imad, 35, initially reversed their retirements to play in the 2024 T20 World Cup in the United States and West Indies. However, Pakistan’s disappointing group-stage exit led to this final decision.
Amir retired from Tests in 2019 and quit international white-ball cricket in December 2020, citing “mental torture” and “shabby treatment” by the team management.
In 2010, Amir was banned for five years due to a spot-fixing scandal during a Test match in England, alongside Salman Butt and Mohammad Asif. The trio was jailed in the UK, with Amir serving half of his six-month sentence.
On Saturday, Amir announced his retirement on X, stating that it was a “difficult decision,” but the right time for the next generation to take over.
Amir’s career stats include 119 wickets in 36 Tests, 81 wickets in 61 ODIs, and 71 wickets in 62 T20Is.
Imad, who only played white-ball cricket, scored 986 runs at an average of 42.86 in ODIs and 554 runs at 15.82 in T20Is. He also took 44 wickets in ODIs and 73 wickets in T20Is.
