As Worlds 2024 comes to a thrilling close, we’re already looking ahead to what’s in store for 2025. It’s been an exciting year of growth and transformation in LoL Esports, with many changes that have shaped the competitive landscape.
Introducing the First Stand Tournament
We know fans have been asking for a third global event for quite some time, and we’re thrilled to deliver with First Stand, our newest addition to the competitive calendar. Designed to ignite regional rivalries and test innovations, First Stand will see teams from around the world face off in early-season battles, setting the tone for the competition ahead. The event will take place at the conclusion of Split 1 from March 10-16, 2025, at LoL Park in Seoul, Korea.
Fearless Draft: A New Era of Strategy
The highly anticipated Fearless Draft will be introduced in Split 1 across all regions and will take center stage at the First Stand Tournament. This bold new format pushes teams to their strategic limits by adding an extra layer of complexity to each best-of-series. Once a champion is selected, it becomes unavailable for both teams for the remainder of the series. This means that with each game, 10 additional “Fearless Bans” are added. The typical 10 bans from the pick/ban phase will remain intact, making every choice critical and ensuring no repeat picks, even in Game 5. This format encourages daring strategies and forces teams to quickly adapt to an ever-evolving champion pool, making every match even more intense and unpredictable. Get ready for some of the most exciting and dynamic gameplay ever seen in LoL Esports!
MSI 2025: Our Return to Canada
Beginning at the end of June next year, following the conclusion of Split 2, Canada will welcome our Mid-Season Invitational and the 10 qualified teams from our 5 regions! After a long hiatus of live LoL Esports events in Canada, we are thrilled to bring international competition back to our Canadian fans.
Worlds Final Coming to Chengdu
Last week, we announced that Worlds 2025 will be heading to China, and now, as we conclude our thrilling Worlds Final here in London, we’re excited to officially pass the torch and reveal the location of the 2025 League of Legends World Final: Chengdu! Having hosted MSI 2024 in Chengdu, we experienced an incredible atmosphere and a passionate fanbase, and we can’t wait to return for another unforgettable event.
Regional Updates and Formats
Over the past week, regional leagues have shared their format updates for the upcoming season (and you can find links to their respective update articles below!). These changes reflect our ongoing commitment to evolving the LoL Esports ecosystem, ensuring it remains competitive, sustainable, and full of thrilling moments for fans.
Earlier this year, we revealed significant updates to the ecosystem, including the creation of the League of Legends Championship Pacific (LCP) and the League of Legends Championship of The Americas (LTA) – both of which have now been officially given new names and a new look! These leagues mark a step forward as we work to strengthen regional competitions while fostering inter-regional rivalries. We’re thrilled to welcome both the LCP and LTA to the 2025 season, confident that these updates will not only help us move toward a more sustainable future, but also unlock opportunities for even more high stakes gameplay and unforgettable matchups.
